Narrative
The narrative for this short film is that its a game show where people choose to go in a room. There is a pill on the table the pill is poison. One of the people at the table has to take the pill and all the others win a share of 15 million pounds. If no one takes the pill all the people in the room will die. The time limit is 25 minuets. Obviously with the pressured situation Throughout the play there is lots of arguments and in the end one of the characters takes the pill but it turns out that the pill is actually an antidote. This plot twist comes 4 minutes till the end. This makes it a big surprise for the audience.
Characterisation
All the characters are very distinct and quite in depth. This means an audience can relate to at least one of the characters. The characters also fill stereotypes. But the stereotypes are challenged in some of the characters. This is shown through the interactions between them. This gives them more realism. Also the audience are able to see the characters develop as they revel more about themselves. It shows the audience how different people cope under the pressured situation.
Mise-en-scene
There is only one location throughout the film. The film denotes a dinner table with food and drink this connotes that they are at a dinner party. Although at the very end you hear clapping and see bright lights this connotes that they are on a stage and that a live audience has been watching them. The character Trevor is wearing a shirt and tie. This connotes that he is a profession and this fits his character. The character Abby has messy hair and talks with her moth open. This connotes that she doesn't really pay attention to her looks, it also connotes that she lives alone.
Script
There is a lot of dialogue, this allows the story to move on and develop. In the story they talk about who they are and this gives the other characters and the audience and opportunity to understand the characters better. As the characters interact more the tension of the room increases as the timer runs down. The dialogue gets increasing aggressive and the story goes on.
Camera work
All of the camera work is handheld. This makes the audience feel as if they are part of it. There are close ups to show their facial expressions and their emotions. There is also a shot for every character in which they are either eating the food or drinking what has been provided. This is important because the food and drink has poison in it. So the audience need to see that all of the characters have consumed the poison as to why they die.
Editing
There is a cut around every 5 seconds, this gives the audience a fresh view on the characters. When a character is talking the shots go from that character and the other characters reaction. As Jonathan takes the pill, violins start to play. This connotes the sadness of Jonathan taking the pill. But as the other characters start to die the music turns more sinister. This is because this scene is the cliff hanger of the narrative. The music adds to the atmosphere. Then as the audience is revealed there is loud cheering. This connotes that an audience watched the scene. Then the camera fades to white from the bight lights of the crowd. There is also sinister music in the first 26 seconds. This creates the atmosphere for the short film. The music at the start connotes that something bad will take place in the film. There is very little music in the film. This is because the silence creates a very tense atmosphere.
Production value
This production value is high. All the character stay in their costumes. The verisimilitude of the location is created by the location staying the same and the bowls and plates staying in the place that the character has moved them too. Also the characters tone and accents are consistent throughout. The amount of food goes down as the characters eat it, this adds to the production value.
